Bit of a Slump

Yesterday I went for a jog at Neshaminy Park, for the first time. It was nice, We ran a trail in the woods and it looped back to the parking lot, for about a 3 mile run. It was fun to run somewhere new. Last year I took a lot of pictures during my runs and I want to get back to that. I like to have something to post and pictures are pretty much always cooler than words.

None running related note: It has been a news filled month! One of my good friends, Tam, got engaged about a month ago, My brother proposed to his gf (Erin) on Valentine’s Day, and then Saturday night another friend, Ashley got engaged! My roommate from college, Dannielle set her date for her wedding too! So there is some motivation to keep training, if I am going to be wearing dresses when I attend these. Of course, I totally made all of the great news about me… No it really is awesome for all of them! The first will be Tam’s Memorial Day Weekend. My dress has already come in for that one, but I can always tone up a little more…I don’t like to set weight goals, because then I get sad when I don’t meet them. I have been around the same weight for a couple years now, regardless of the physical activity and diet. But I feel better when I am on the beam, and that is what matters most.

OK so tonight I have every intention of going to the gym. My goal will be 3-4 miles..

Another side note: Awesome news! Maggie placed 3rd in the marathon she did this past weekend! She is such an inspiration! I told her I will read the book she should write about being awesome and running real far.

Day 21

Week 4

Yesterday I ran the same route as last Sunday but in reverse, so it was a bit under 6 miles. It was so nice out, sun shining, people smiling, I’m glad I got out there. I love how the warmer weather makes people look you in the face and smile, everyone seems a little nicer. Even the guy who I thought looked like a friend of mine, so I waved and it wasn’t who I thought…But it could have been much more awkward had it been cold and the stranger had a snarl instead of a sunny smile. So 3 full weeks of training down already! I am kind of shocked that I have been making it to the gym regularly, I don’t want to jinx it so I will just take it a day at a time : )

Last week I did 3 miles the three times I went to the gym and this week I need to do 2- 3 mile runs and a 4 mile run. Thursdays are probably my favorite night to run. I am done school for that week, and I get to watch my favorite show (30 Rock) while on the treadmill. And not to mention the gym is practically empty. This week it was only the old man that brings his own boom box, so he can play his workout music. It was some type of 80s selection this week. Reminded me of some of the movies from the 80s like Short Circuit. I haven’t seen that in a while, think I need to Netflix that.

Chemistry is no joke. My lab this week was pretty intense so I know that I will need to be adjusting my schedule to make sure I have study/HW time in there as well. I am so happy that I started the new job, because I don’t have to come in to work until 8:30, which means I can stay up until 11 or 12 and make sure things get done. Last night, I was out past 10, watching the Super bowl, and I still managed to sleep a full 8 hrs. Yes I am in a good mood today :D I love my sleep! Oh and my friend John asked me to join his coed softball team, so I will be starting that in April. It’s Friday Nights so it shouldn’t interfere with much. That can be my ‘cross train’ day. I haven’t played in over 7 yrs so the first few games should be interesting. It is over 40 degrees today and the sun is out!!! But its gonna get cold again tomorrow and the rest of the week :/

I did not even realize Chubaka and I are making the same pose below...Oh man

To Each His(her) Own

Officially Week 3 of training. I looked at the schedule last night, I am following one of Hal Higdon marathon trainings, and when you look at the long run and scroll down…17 weeks is not really that long. Now 17 wks will bring me to Mid May or near the end of May so I will need to just continue with the long runs until July. My long run last week was a mile short :/ I didn’t map it out ahead of time so I figured if I ran to University City and back it would be close to 7, but it was just barely 6 miles. The snow had melted and it wasn’t too bad of a run actually. I went from my house to 33rd St made a Right then came back on Walnut. I went to Front St and then over to Bainbridge because I had a feeling it wasn’t long enough. This week on the schedule it says 5 miles for the long run but I am going to see how I feel and maybe get that 7 in there.

I went to the gym last night after work and NEVER again! There are WAY too many people there. I got a treadmill, then it was really loud when I was running and that always makes me feel like I am an elephant and the machine is about to break under my ginormous steps! So I stopped that one and went to another.. I ran 3 miles, my knee was bothering me a little but I stretched and it was ok.

Then I went into a room with a mat so I can do my squats, etc. So I laid down and was doing my crunches when this guy came over and gave me an overly loud sigh..OK I was taking up a large portion of the mat but I am not used to being in there with so many people. He gave me a bit of tude when I asked if he wanted me to move over and that is when I decided I love the gym…after 9 pm!

Then I had to listen to Mr. Tudey talk to his also grown male friend about Star Wars for a good 15 mins. And then my mind got mean to them, like I am some super cool kid or something, cause had I been with one of my girl friend’s and talking about Annie or Nsync I would have found nothing weird or dorky about that. However, don’t give me tude then talk about Chubaka like he’s your next door neighbor. And then I was reminded of when I had an internet dating profile and I was winked at by this guy….in a full Chubaka outfit. For real all the pics were him dressed as a giant Ape, what if one of them… Anyway, to each his own..and mine is the gym after 9PM!

This is super blurry because I took the pic when it was online... But I thought it was cool. I look like I am a real athlete, and I am smiling which is important too :)
